WELCOME TO MY SITE...
It appears, at the moment*, I’m a luthier/musician/singer-songwriter striving to celebrate the friendship between wood and wire and to share some of the wonder that flows from that relationship. In the four decades since I built my first instrument I’ve found that, like most friendships, the one between wood and wire is fraught with tension and compromise. It’s a dance of the mysterious and the obvious, of fascination and frustration, of routine and revelation. Mustering the patience to find some balance in all that, can bring great rewards.
This website is a portal into my love affair with wood and wire, words and vibrations, tone and temperament, idiom and intonation. Like my shop, it’s not as organized as I’d like it to be, but if you keep poking around long enough, you might find what you’re looking for. *Julie [my wife] and I have a running joke about what we’re going to be when we grow up. She’s a life long educator and I’ve been making music and musical instruments for four decades. It may still be too early to tell, but recently I got to looking around at my workshop on the banks of Lake Swan in the sleepy town of Melrose here in North Florida, where I spend my days doing my best to make dead trees sing… and I wondered if this might be “what I’ll be?” Time will tell I guess, but so far it hasn’t been such a bad gig. |
